New CCS Navigator™ Control Software Available for Both Legacy and NetXpress™ Audio Over IP Platforms; Show Also Marks International Debut of Intraplex ® SynchroCast3™ for IP Networks AMSTERDAM, Netherlands, September 6, 2007 — Harris Corporation (NYSE: HRS), an international communications and information technology company, today introduced a new software interface for its Intraplex ® NetXpress™ audio over IP platform at the IBC Convention. IBC also marks the international debut of the Intraplex ® Synchrocast3™ for IP networks, a third-generation simulcasting product for radio broadcasters with overlapping transmitters that is currently shipping. Harris is located at Stand #7.621 at the RAI Convention Center during the event, being held September 7-11. Harris announced the new CCS Navigator™ control software for NetXpress™, a Windows ®-based software application that provides graphical tools to create easy-to-use graphical user interfaces (GUIs) that visually represent operational environments.
Intraplex ® NetXpress™, the industry's first managed platform for the transport of audio over IP, is an advanced transport solution for radio broadcasters that send multiple services, including audio, data and PBX telephone communications, between studios or to the transmitter site over a single IP connection. The Harris CCS Navigator control software is also available for Harris ® Intraplex ® legacy E1 transport systems. The software connects to Intraplex legacy E1 and NetXpress™ IP systems via SNMP when operated over a basic PC desktop. At IBC, Harris will demonstrate the integration of CCS Navigator control software with both Intraplex ® platforms.
'The Harris CCS Navigator software for Intraplex ® systems consolidates and eases network-wide status monitoring and control by representing broadcast systems with familiar and intuitive interfaces,' said Tim Thorsteinson, president of Harris Broadcast Communications. 'This gives radio broadcasters a far more manageable system to monitor and configure their entire audio contribution and distribution networks from both the hardware and software perspective, using a single, easy-to-navigate interface.' CCS Navigator provides a gallery of buttons, symbols and images to create customized display pages. Each page represents an interface to a specific network environment. Users can import other image files to supplement that gallery, such as corporate logos and system block diagrams. Harris will also display Intraplex ® SynchroCast3™ at the stand. Introduced at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) convention in April, SynchroCast3™ allows broadcasters to create single frequency networks (SFNs) over IP links when used with NetXpress™.
The broadcaster gains all of the IP-related benefits of higher bandwidth and a less expensive network, while using a scalable platform to expand its listener base. SynchroCast3™ over IP utilizes the same, proven architecture of legacy Intraplex ® SynchroCast™ systems for E1 networks and adds the precision of digital GPS timing to increase coverage areas and reduce interference throughout a transmitter network — especially in geographical regions with difficult terrains.
Intraplex ® systems combine digital program audio with telephone and data traffic for studio-to-studio or studio-to-transmitter links, while delivering the best-quality on-air sound available today. Legacy Intraplex ® customers can operate over E1 or IP networks simultaneously for a gradual transition to IP.
The Intraplex ® products are part of the media transport and transmission offerings in the Harris Broadcast Communications ONE initiative to deliver interoperable workflow solutions that span the entire broadcast delivery chain. The unique Harris approach brings together highly integrated and cost-effective products that are ideal for emerging media business models and for customers upgrading media operations to digital and high-definition services. Advanced Network Monitoring and Control Graphical Navigation Application CCS Navigator™ is a Windows®-based software application that provides device configuration and various levels of control and monitoring for broadcast networks. CCS Navigator primarily uses the Harris-developed CCS Protocol (CCSP), a binary open source protocol that provides real-time parametric adjustment and enhanced alarm management and correlation.
CCS Protocol allows a tighter integration with Harris products, easy setup and the ability to scale networks while conserving precious network bandwidth. Harris understands the complexities of managing the entire end-to-end network, including third-party devices. The CCS Navigator monitoring and control system also employs the industry-standard simple network management protocol (SNMP) to allow seamless integration with any SNMP-enabled device. This enables CCS Navigator to provide a single monitoring and control system for Harris and third-party devices in a single, easy-to-use interface. Adding to these rich capabilities is the ability to embed ActiveX components onto the graphical user interface (GUI). ActiveX is beneficial as it allows the use of components such as Web browsers to be embedded onto the CCS Navigator GUI to control third-party devices via HTTP (Hypertext Transfer Protocol).
Viewing control and monitoring as a system allows unlimited product integration and customization without compromising usability. Through CCS Protocol, SNMP and HTTP, the Harris network monitoring and control solution is engineered to meet internal availability metrics now and in years to come. CCS Navigator is truly an all-in-one monitoring and control application to meet the ever-changing needs of a broadcaster’s day-to-day operational workflow.
